I’ve been a huge Gucci Mane fan since his Trap House album and I’ve been pleased to see his growth after being released from prison. I was anticipating his wedding day with Keyshia Ka’oir and was super excited to watch it live. As I scrolled through Facebook during commercial breaks, I couldn’t help but notice all the negativity across my timeline about their wedding. Instead of celebrating love and his decision to tie the knot, my own people decided to share their negative opinions about the wedding. More than ever, blacks have been under the radar across social media platforms. It is one issue for those of other races to misunderstand and misjudge us but it is another issue for our own people to misrepresent our race. Before going to social media ask yourself, “Is this going to uplift and encourage my community?” If the answer is no, abort mission! In effort to combat the negativity, I have decided to blog about inspiring people of color on various Mondays. This series will be titled “Melanin Monday.” I love my melanin, I love my black people, and I want us all to win! Stay tuned for the first “Melanin Monday” series on November 6th.
